About Me My name is Hailee… I am a 26-year-old woman living in the Pacific Northwest and continually trying to live out God’s call for my life. I work full time as an accounting specialist and am heavily involved in my church and I have been looking for a way to express my creativity and share my passion for words with other people. Hailee’s Comment was born from the culmination of these urges to share my passion and a little push from a book I read about a character that had a blog. I have my siblings to thank for clever play on words. There’s a periodic comet called Halley’s comet and although it’s spelled differently, it became the inspiration for my grandpa’s nickname for me, “little comet” (I even used it in my first email address). So when I was trying to figure out a name for this blog that would indicate what I would be writing about but not be so specific that I would limit myself, Hailee’s Comment ended up being the best balance of the two. I want this to be a personal blog where I share my comments, opinions, thoughts, and emotions but I also want it to be a place where friends and family can periodically check in (just like the comet) and strangers can find a safe place to share their comments on the things they love. Ever since I can remember, my life has been filled with books. I learned to read before I started kindergarten and every summer through middle school, my parents would incentivize my sisters and I to read by paying us according to the number of pages in the books we finished. In school, I was the kid that read for fun and often had to be told by the teacher to put my book away rather than my phone (which I didn’t have until I was 18 anyways). For me, books can be so many things, a comfort, an escape, an emotional safe haven, a distraction, a creative outlet, inspiration, and simple entertainment. I love to share recommendations and talk about books with other people, which is one of the reasons I wanted to start this blog. My love of music was developed in a similar way, where I was exposed to it from a very young age. My grandpa was always playing instruments, we would have family jam sessions, and my dad had a huge CD collection full of everything but country (which I came to love when I got to high school) that we would constantly be pulling from. And although I’ve only dabbled in piano and guitar, I swear I’ve been singing since I came out of the womb (it was more like screaming then). If you know me at all, you know that I have music playing 24/7 and my love for it runs deep. It’s a language, a feeling, an emotion, an expression, an art, a longing, a peace, a depth. Music brings people together, it encourages, it sits with you in your sadness, it makes you want to dance, and it’s an act of worship. There are so many genres and artists out there and my hope is that this blog can be a place where I can share my favorites and find new music. The last of my passions that made we want to start this blog is poetry. I am fascinated by words and how there are seemingly infinite ways to describe the same thing. I’m constantly looking up definitions, reading, writing, and using words to express my creativity. And that is where my love of poetry comes in. The first time I wrote poetry was in middle school and while I took a break from it for a while, I rediscovered my love for it in the last few years and it’s been my refuge whenever I have strong emotions. I hope that this blog can be a place where I can share some of my rough poetry drafts as well as expand my exposure to different types of poetry. Book Reviews Fantasy Mystery Romance Science Fiction
